This is according to a notification from WhatsApp that reads, “Unfortunately, you won’t be able to use WhatsApp after 31/12/2016 because WhatsApp will no longer support your phone.” Prior to this, WhatsApp had already given Symbian users a heads up that in 2017, the app will no longer be supported by the company, but it looks like we have a specific date to look forward to, which is the end of the year.
This really doesn’t come as a surprise considering that the majority of phones these days are of the smartphone variety that runs on either iOS or Android. Symbian, which used to be pretty big back in the day, barely registers as a blip on the radar, which is why we guess WhatsApp has decided that supporting the platform is no longer financially feasible since their resources could be better spent elsewhere.
We guess if you are still on Symbian and want to use WhatsApp, perhaps you should consider upgrading your phone.
