Popular game streaming service Twitch continues to rely on Adobe Flash to deliver video even though the outdated web technology is quickly being ditched. Twitch is now finally getting on the program. The Amazon-owned company has confirmed today that it’s beta testing its lighter and faster HTML5 video player which is eventually going to completely replace its Flash counterpart. Twitch says that the HTML5 player has been one of the most requested features by its community.

Twitch promises that the new HTML5 player is going to allow players to watch the same streams with a smoother experience. They can expect streams to start faster and to see a noticeable improvement in video stability when a broadcast is available in 30 or 60 frames-per-second.

In the beta test the HTML5 player is only going to be made available to Twitch’s paying Twitch Turbo subscribers. It’s now going to collect feedback on the new player before it steadily expands beta access to more users towards the end of this summer based on the data it gathers during this initial test.

Those who are randomly selected to be a part of the beta test will see an alert on the video player informing them that they can click on the gear icon to turn on HTML5.
