You can’t deny you never wanted to have some fun with a lightsaber when you watched the Star Wars movies for the very first time. Now you can take those weapons for a spin, in virtual reality at least, with a new Star Wars VR lightsaber game called Trials on Tatooine. This VR game has been created by Industrial Light & Magic’s xLab and the best part is that it’s available free for everybody.
Lucasfilm chief technology officer Rob Bredow confirmed at the Star Wars Celebration expo today that Trials on Tatooine is going to be available for free to any and all players. It’s going to be available for download via Steam VR. This game can also be played using the HTC Vive and it’s available free for that headset as well.
Trials on Tatooine is described as a cinematic virtual reality experiment in which players are put on Tatooine as the Millennium Falcon lands followed by the Imperial shuttle. Players are given a lightsaber by R2-D2 and they are then tasked with deflecting bolts fired by Stormtroopers, the objective is to hold them off so that the Millennium Falcon can escape.
This isn’t the only VR-related Star Wars news out of the Celebration expo today. It has also been confirmed that a Darth Vader virtual reality film is being made which will be released in a year or two.
