While it is clear that WhatsApp has a huge user base, Snapchat is certainly one to keep an eye out for. The app allows users to edit photos within the app, swap faces, add all kinds of weird and funky filters, which at the end of the day makes for a pretty fun messaging experience. However it looks like WhatsApp has plans to play catchup.
According to a report from Spanish website Mensajeria Movil (via Android PIT), they have discovered that WhatsApp is working on features that offer up Snapchat-like image editing features. This is thanks to icons that were discovered that had yet to be activated, but at the same time their existence did reveal potential features.
As you can see in the screenshot above, it shows that tools that lets users draw shapes, draw a path, an undo feature, and so on. It is unclear as to what the extent of these image editing is, but they do sound pretty interesting. As it stands, WhatsApp already allows very basic image editing features, like cropping, rotating, and setting the aspect ratio.
However if these alleged features are the real deal, it could make the app more “fun” as opposed to being just a standard messaging app.
