Sharp Launches The Aquos 507SH Android One Smartphone

One of the ways that Google has tried to make Android appeal to emerging markets is by launching the Android One initiative. In a way you could think of Android One devices as low-end Nexus handsets aimed at customers on a very tight budget. So far we’ve seen such devices launch in markets like India.

Interestingly enough it seems that maybe Japan might be a potential market as well, or at least that’s what the folks at Sharp think because the company has launched their first Android One handset in the form of the Sharp Aquos 507SH. Since this is an Android One handset, it’s specs are really nothing to should out.

There will be a 5-inch HD IGZO display with Corning’s Gorilla Glass 4. Under the hood, a Snapdragon 617 chipset can be found accompanied by 2GB of RAM and 16GB of storage that can be expanded to 200GB. There will also be a 13MP rear-facing camera, a 5MP front-facing camera, and a decently-sized 3,010mAh battery.

There is also mention of it being IP55 and IP58 certified but since the text is in Japanese, it is unclear as to what this means since phones usually only have one certification. No word on pricing but presumably since this is an Android One handset, it probably won’t be breaking the bank.
