Samsung Pay Mini Trademark Application Spotted

Samsung-PayAt the moment, Samsung Pay is only limited to Samsung devices. While Samsung is leading the way in terms of Android phones, it still means that there are tons of other Android users who will ultimately be driven into the open and waiting arms of other mobile payment services, such as Android Pay.

However that could soon change as thanks to a recent trademark application spotting, it seems that Samsung has filed for the name “Samsung Pay Mini”. Now it does sound like an odd name, but basically Samsung Pay Mini is said to be a slightly different version of Samsung Pay. This is because it would be impossible for Samsung to cater to devices that may or may not have the support for Magnetic Secure Transmission, the protocol it uses for Samsung Pay on Samsung handsets.

Ultimately this means that other Android phones will be able to use the feature, and by that logic it would suggest that it could potentially arrive on iOS as well, although with Apple Pay, we’re not sure if iOS users would be so eager to hop on board a third-party service. Unfortunately while the trademark was filed, there is no mention of when it will launch.

However Samsung is expected to make several announcements in the near future, like the Galaxy J2 and the Galaxy Note 7, in which the latter is said to be due next month, so maybe we will learn more about the service then.
