A new crop of flagship smartphones will be released in the coming months and most of them are going to be powered by the latest and greatest processor that Qualcomm has to offer. The company today introduced the Snapdragon 821 processor which is an improved version of the Snapdragon 820 processor that you already find in flagship smartphones such as the Galaxy S7.
The Qualcomm Snapdragon 820 powers almost every flagship smartphone that has been released so far this year, aside from the Galaxy S7 and Galaxy S7 Edge, it also powers the LG G5, the OnePlus 3, the HTC 10, and the Xiaomi Mi5.
Qualcomm says that the Snapdragon 821 builds upon the foundation laid by the Snapdragon 820 and that it offers a 10 percent performance increase when compared to its predecessor. The company hasn’t said if the GPU’s speed has seen an improvement as well in this new processor, but it does say that the Snapdragon 821 uses the same 600Mbps Snapdragon X12 LTE modem as the Snapdragon 820.
The new processor has been launched as companies like Samsung and HTC get ready to release new handsets, though Qualcomm has not said which handsets are going to be powered by this processor, it’s quite likely that the new Nexus phones and the Galaxy Note 7 will be some of the first handsets to use the Snapdragon 821.
