Sony is going to launch its PlayStation VR headset later this year and there’s good news for folks in China. The headset will be coming there at the same time it’s released in many countries across the globe. That’s normally unusual for the Chinese market where there are strict regulations on games and consoles, but Sony has confirmed that the PlayStation VR launch in China will take place on October 13th.
Sony made the confirmation at an event earlier today ahead of tomorrow’s opening of ChinaJoy which is the country’s biggest gaming festival. The Japanese company confirmed at the event that it’s going to launch the PlayStation VR headset in China on October 13th.
There is a catch, though. PlayStation 4 owners will only get 20 virtual reality games at launch in China as opposed to the 50 that are promised for other markets on launch day. They will also be paying more for the headset. PlayStation VR costs roughly $450 in China while in the U.S. it’s priced at $399.
PlayStation VR is already quite popular. Pre-orders sold out very quickly and PlayStation fans across the globe are anxiously waiting to see what the company’s first virtual reality headset is all about. Those who got their pre-orders in will find out come October.
