Apple has selected a rather punny name for its first unscripted reality TV show, it’s calling the show “Planet of the Apps.” The company announced earlier this year that it’s working on its first unscripted reality TV show about app developers. An open casting call has now been issued which means that production on the show is well and truly underway.
The open casting call has been launched this week for “100 of the world’s most talented app creators,” those who would like to be considered for a spot on the show will need to provide information about the app they’ll create aside from a one minute video profile of them and their team.
The format of this show is still unclear and it can’t be said for sure if any Apple executives will be making a cameo. What’s clear is that this is going to be a show about applications and the quest to create one that can win whatever it is that the show offers.
Contestants are promised mentorship by some of the world’s best experts in technology and entertainment, and they will have a chance to take a piece of up to $10 million that top-tier VCs will be looking to invest. Apple will also provide top applications with featured placement in the App Store.
It’s unclear when and how this show is going to air, it’s likely going to arrive next year on Apple’s platforms like the Apple TV and iTunes.
