Google has always played it smart by getting other companies to build stuff for them. This means that in terms of production and manufacturing facilities, Google doesn’t have to spend money on that. We’ve seen Google get companies to build their Android phones and tablets under the Nexus brand, and now it looks like we could be getting Nexus smartwatches too.
A report from Android Police has revealed that Google could be looking to build to Android Wear smartwatches of their own later this year. The report says that Google is building the watches, which suggests that this is Google’s own endeavor and we could be looking at a Google-branded device, as opposed to Nexus handsets which are basically Android smartphones commissioned by Google.
The two devices in question are codenamed Angelfish and Swordfish. The former will be a larger model and is said to resemble the Moto 360 and the LG Urbane 2nd Edition LTE, but is said to be a more sporty version of either device. It is also rumored to be LTE-ready which means that it will be quite thick at 14mm.
The second device Swordfish is said to be the smaller of the two and will come with less features,, such as the lack of a heart rate monitor, GPS, and LTE. We guess this could just be a cheaper alternative to those who want a smartwatch but don’t necessarily need to have every single feature. Take it with a grain of salt for now, but along with these devices, we have also heard rumors that Google could be making their own phone this year, marking an interesting shift in the company’s strategy.
