Last year there were rumors that Blizzard could be considering a new Diablo 3 expansion. The details of the expansion was leaked and it was said that it could be announced at BlizzCon 2015, but obviously that did not happen. Subsequent rumors have since indicated that Blizzard has decided to do a Diablo 4 instead.
Whether or not that is true still remains to be seen, but Blizzard’s interest in the Diablo franchise is still strong thanks to job listings which seems to be calling upon a variety of people from different backgrounds to help contribute to an “unannounced project”. Whether this is a Diablo 3 expansion or a brand new Diablo 4 is anyone’s guess, but Blizzard is actively looking for people to fill certain roles.
These job listings include a Software Engineer, Senior Concept Artist, Senior Character Artist, Senior VFX Artist, Senior Animator, Animator, and a Game Director. The last role is particularly interesting as Diablo 3’s director Josh Mosqueira has since stepped down from his role as confirmed by Blizzard to Polygon.
According to Blizzard, “With Diablo III in a good place at this point, Josh felt that now was a good time to pursue other opportunities with minimal impact to the team. We’ll be filling the director role either from within Blizzard or externally.” Diablo 3 was first launched in 2012 meaning that it has been four years since, which also means that a new game wouldn’t be a complete stretch.
