Uber is used by millions of people around the world. Some use it for going to work, others catch a ride to the airport, the fact is that Uber has made it incredibly easy to hail a ride from the comfort of our smartphones. Users don’t necessarily need a reason to call an Uber, the app doesn’t ask you for one, which is probably why an alleged bank robber thought it would be a wise idea of escape the scene of the crime in an Uber.

The Weymouth Police Department writes in a Facebook post that a man allegedly tried to rob the Santander Bank in Weymouth, Massachusetts earlier this week by passing a note to the teller claiming he had a bomb on him.

The suspect, identified as Luis E. Mallett, demanded that the teller give him money. He fled the bank on foot and was found to have jumped in an Uber to make his getaway. Police found out about him getting in an Uber from a witness who saw him entering an Uber heading to Brockton.

The red Nissan Altima which was Mallett’s Uber ride was apprehended by officers in traffic and the suspect was found in possession of over $700 in cash which was the amount of money that had been stolen during the robbery. Mallett was charged with unarmed robbery and false report relative to the location of an explosive device.
