There are some rumors circulating that Apple could launch 3 iPhones this year. We will have the regular iPhone 7, the iPhone 7 Plus, and the iPhone 7 Pro. In case you’re new to the iPhone rumors, basically the iPhone 7 Pro is the model that is rumored to feature a dual lens setup, and as its name implies, is aimed more at users who might appreciate this advancement.
It would be a rather odd thing for Apple to do which is to split their products into further subcategories as it would be pretty confusing to customers, which is why we have always maintained a pretty healthy skepticism of the rumor. Now it looks like famed leakster @evleaks (a.k.a. Evan Blass) has refuted them as well.
In a post on Twitter, Blass states that Apple will launch not one, not three, but two iPhones this year, and even revealed their internal codenames in the process. “The 2 (two!) 2016 iPhone models are codenamed Sonora and Dos Palos.” Of course Blass does not represent Apple but given his pretty stellar track record when it comes to leaks and rumors, there could be some merit to his words.
In any case take it with a grain of salt for now, and while the rumors of the iPhone 7 Pro might have been shot down, the rumors about a dual lens setup persists and it will be interesting to see what Apple might have to say about it.
