Last month thanks to leaked information, it was revealed that HTC will be working on two Nexus handsets this year codenamed “Marlin” and “Sailfish”. If the rumors are any accurate, the Marlin is expected to be the flagship model, while Sailfish is said to be the “smaller” model which presumably would have meant that it would come with lower-end specs.
However that does not seem to be the case. A tweet by Evan Blass contains a screenshot of the alleged ROM dump for the Sailfish handset, and according to the information that was gleaned from the dump, it seems that we are looking at a possible Qualcomm Snapdragon 820 chipset under the hood.
With the Snapdragon 820 chipset found in today’s high-end flagships, it seems that the Sailfish is only a “smaller” model in terms of display size, which last we heard would measure 5-inches versus the Marlin’s 5.5-inch display. There is also mention of 420 dpi which seems to be somewhat in line with the rumors of a 5-inch screen with a Full HD resolution.
In any case safe to say that you should probably take this with a grain of salt for now, but if the dump is true, it seems that customers after a smartphone with flagship-like specs but in a slightly manageable size, the HTC “Sailfish” could be the phone for you.
