Here Maps – which started out as a Nokia division – is making a big change today. The team has rebranded the app from HERE Maps to HERE WeGo and also introduced a major redesign as well as improvements to the overall functionality. These changes have been made to further improve the mapping experience for people who use the app to go from one point to another.
Fire up Here WeGo and the search is waiting for the user to enter their destination. Once the destination is entered it brings up a list of options that they can choose from to get there. The app also has a new Route Comparison screen which displays additional information about the route.
In many major countries where this mapping service is available, users will now see options from car-sharing company Car2Go alongside the usual car, cycling, public transit, and pedestrian options. Users will be able to see the nearest available cars on the map with the estimated cost of using one to get to their destination.
In some cities the app is also going to display taxi information for the route which will include the wait time, approximate fare, and a call button. Bicycle routing has been improved in the new app, it now offers elevation profiles so users can decide which routes to take by judging them with the effort required to make it to the destination.
HERE WeGo is out now for Android and iOS.
