Last month Fujifilm officially announced the Instax SP-2 printer, the successor to the Instax SP-1 that has been around for a while now. The new mobile printer brings several upgrades to the table, such as speedier printing and higher quality printing, so the question is is it worth upgrading from the SP-1 to the SP-2, or should you save money and stick with the SP-1?
If you’re curious, a video uploaded to YouTube by Damien D’Angelo (via Fuji Rumors) compares both printers side-by-side, and it looks like the Instax SP-2 has beaten the SP-1 by a mile. In terms of speed, the SP-2 is noticeably faster than its predecessor. In fact it finished printing out an entire image before the SP-1 did.
In terms of printing quality, once again the clear winner is the SP-2 with the colors being bolder and richer, and while you can’t really tell from the video, the printer is also supposed to print in a higher resolution. Of course the Instax SP-2 is probably more expensive than the SP-1 as it is newer(it is priced at $200).
However if you’re not too fussed about quality and speed, the SP-1 can probably be picked up these days for less. After all these printouts aren’t exactly what you would hang in an art gallery so if you’re looking for larger and higher quality printouts, maybe you should look elsewhere.
