Microsoft released an app called Get Windows 10 last year which pretty much does what the name suggests. It lets people reserve their free upgrade to Windows 10 as long as they’re running Windows 8.1 or Windows 7. The free upgrade offer is going to expire by the end of this month and it appears that the Get Windows 10 app now has a countdown timer which is counting down the days until the deadline, after which all updates to Windows 10 will have to be purchased.
Microsoft released Windows 10 on July 29th last year and offered it as a free upgrade to all Windows 7 and Windows 8.1 users. It confirmed right off the bat that this free upgrade offer would be good for one year.
Fast forward to nine days before July 29th, 2016 and the Get Windows 10 app is now counting down the days till this deadline.
The countdown timer is based on the PC’s local time and serves as a crucial reminder to those who might have been putting off this update for the last minute. They might not want to miss out on this because if the deadline passes they will have to pay $119 for Windows 10 Home if they decided to move up.
Users on Windows 7 and Windows 8.1 have a little more than a week to decide whether they want to stick with their existing Windows versions to upgrade to Windows 10 for free. They stand to save quite a bit of money if they go with the latter.
