Facebook Testing Offline Video Viewing In India

It appears that Facebook is conducting a new test in India which enables users in the country to save videos for offline viewing. Those who are running the latest beta version of the official Facebook app can now find an option to save videos offline for viewing at a time they don’t have or don’t want to use an internet connection. The new feature is reportedly being tested with select users in the country.

Google started testing offline video viewing for YouTube in India as well. That feature was launched in India about a year ago and has since been expanded to the Philippines and Indonesia.

It makes sense for Facebook to follow suit. Even though India is a rapidly developing market it still has a considerable number of people who still rely on offline access. That’s why Google’s decision to enable offline viewing was hailed, and now Facebook is doing something similar.

Users in India can check and see if this feature has been enabled for their account. They just have to open a video in their app and tap on the three-dot overflow menu followed by save. Once the video has finished downloading users will then be able to watch it without requiring an internet connection.
