DJI Will Now Alert Drone Owners Of Nearby Wildfires

Drones allow us to get to heights and access views that would not normally be possible unless one was in a helicopter. Unfortunately the novelty meant that people were using drones to record all kinds of things, like emergency situations which in some cases can actually hinder rescue efforts.

DJI knows this which is why the company has recently announced that they will be adding real-time wildfire alerts to its geofencing system. What happens here is that when there are wildfires taking place, the geofencing system will note where they are which in turn will prevent the drones from flying into them.

While we suppose this protects the drone from getting damaged, it also prevents drone owners from becoming a nuisance and hindering any rescue efforts that might be underway, or if you’re in California it seems that firefighters will be within their rights to ground your drone. The geofencing system was introduced earlier this year and it looks like they’re pretty serious about it with this update.

The information about the wildfires will be pulled directly from AirMap, which in turn gets its information from the Department of Interior’s incident command system, so drone owners can rest assured knowing that the information that they are getting is the real deal and is always up to date.
