One of the most iconic characters from the Star Wars universe is making his way to virtual reality. It has been confirmed that Lucasfilm is making a Darth Vader virtual reality film in collaboration with xLab, the virtual reality arm of Industrial Light & Magic. This highly anticipated virtual reality experience is going to be written by David S. Goyer, the man who penned Man of Steel and Batman Begins.
Pablo Hidalgo, creative executive at Lucasfilm, confirmed that a Darth Vader virtual reality film is being made. He also revealed that this is going to be an original Star Wars narrative experience that’s going to allow viewers to experience and feel as if they are a part of Darth Vader’s story.
He did clarify that viewers are not going to have a passive experience like what viewers get with a TV show or even a gaming experience. This is going to be something new altogether that’s strongly tied to the original story within the Star Wars universe.
This unique film is going to take place in a persistent world meaning that it would cycle through day and night, and will continue to do so even after the viewer has gone through the story for the very first time.
It will certainly not be available immediately. Goyer mentions that it could take up to a year or two for this experience to be released to Star Wars fans across the globe.
