As Overwatch is pretty much a pure multiplayer game, in terms of telling its story, it would be obviously a lot harder compared to single-player or RPG games. However Blizzard has tried by releasing animated shorts and digital comics to try and fill in the blanks and give its characters more depth and richness.
The comics have typically been rather short but we guess sufficient enough to fill in those gaps, but for Overwatch fans out there, it looks like you guys can look forward to much more than that. During the San Diego Comic-Con, Blizzard announced that they would be partnering up with Dark Horse Comics that will result in an Overwatch graphic novel.
To kick things off, the publisher has begun publishing Blizzard’s own comics through their digital comics service, and come April 2017, the 100-page graphic novel will be released. Unfortunately the details of the novel, like who will be the artists, writers, and what the storyline will be is unclear and will probably be revealed at a later date.
There will also be a release of a hardcover The Art of Overwatch book which as its name implies, will be a book featuring the artwork of the game, unseen concept art, and illustrations. The art book will be seeing a release in the summer of 2017.
