This was also despite the fact that critics had panned the film, making it a pretty impressive feat nonetheless. That being said, many have expressed high hopes for the upcoming Assassin’s Creed movie, although it seems that Ubisoft has tempered expectations somewhat when during an interview with MCV, Ubisoft’s EMEA executive director Alain Corre stated that earning a ton of money with the movie isn’t really Ubisoft’s focus here.
This does not mean that Ubisoft doesn’t think that it will be a success. We guess it sounds more like Ubisoft is using the movie as a platform to market the franchise, as opposed to focusing on trying to shake up the movie industry with their film and earning millions upon millions in ticket sales, although we guess they wouldn’t mind if it went on to be a finacial success.
According to Corre, “Although we will make some money, it is not the purpose of this movie. The purpose is to bring Assassin’s Creed to more people. We have our core fans, but what we would like is to put this franchise in front of a lot more people who, maybe, will then pick up future Assassin’s Creed games.” In the meantime, the Assassin’s Creed movie starring Michael Fassbender has been scheduled for a release in December later this year.
