Apple Pay in Hong Kong will play nicely with credit card companies such as Mastercard, Visa, and American Express. According to Apple’s website, they also point out that Apple Pay will be compatible with BEA and HKT touchless payment network Tap & Go. From what we can tell, the list of supported retailers is pretty huge, at least compared to the one in France.
We are looking at support from restaurant/fast food chains such as KFC, McDonald’s, Pizza Hut, and Starbucks, just to name a few. There will also be support at stores such as 7-11, Watsons, and Apple’s own outlets (obviously). Apple Pay Hong Kong will also support in-app purchases from the likes of Cathay Pacific, Kickstarter, Foodpanda, Casetify, and more.
Apple Pay has been steadily rolling out across countries over the past year or so. It isn’t as widely available as it could be yet as there are still plenty of countries that do not support the service, but hopefully they will get to more markets in time.
