Google has only launched Android Auto in a handful of markets right now and the expansion of its in-car infotainment platform has been rather slow. Android users in Japan will be delighted to find out today that Android Auto has finally been launched in their country. Android Auto is now immediately available in Japan and soon cars from several manufacturers will have the platform baked in so users will just need to plug in their phones to access Android Auto.
Google says that cars sold by manufacturers such as Honda, Volkswagen, and Audi should be able to offer Android Auto integration. All users need to do is install the Android Auto app on their smartphones and it now recognizes Japan as a supported country. It’s interesting to note that Japan’s largest car manufacturer, Toyota, is yet to adopt Android Auto in any of its cars.
Those who don’t have a recent model from the abovementioned manufacturers need not worry. Nissan and Panasonic will soon release aftermarket head units in Japan which will have Android Auto baked in.
Most of Google’s native applications have support for Android Auto, this includes but is not limited to Maps, Google Play Music, and more. More apps specific to Japan will certainly add support for Android Auto down the line.
