XCOM: Enemy Unknown may have been available for consoles but that didn’t mean that when the sequel came out it would be immediately available on consoles as well. XCOM 2 has been a PC exclusive until today because the XCOM 2 console release has finally been confirmed. Developer Firaxis has confirmed that this popular PC game is going to make its way to the PlayStation 4 and Xbox One in September this year.
XCOM 2 console release is going to be handled by a new developer called The Workshop, it was founded by people who were previously at Treyarch, a studio known for its Call of Duty titles.
The incredible reception of XCOM 2 has been rewarding and humbling for the team, and we’ve known console fans have been clamoring to play the game too,” said Jake Solomon, creative director for XCOM 2.
Firaxis is going to work with The Workshop to bring XCOM 2 to PlayStation 4 and Xbox One later this year. The port will be identical to its PC counterpart, however, it will have updated controls for the console.
XCOM 2 will be released for consoles on September 6th in North America and September 9th across the globe. Firaxis hasn’t confirmed if XCOM 2 will be released on mobile as well like XCOM: Enemy Unknown was.
