This resulted in a dilemma which was posed in the form of a question by Eurogamer who interviewed Xbox boss Phil Spencer, and it is a question we’re sure many gamers are probably asking themselves. “Why would I buy the Xbox One S knowing the Scorpio is coming? What possible reason would I have given a much more powerful Xbox is coming down the line?”
According to Spencer, the Scorpio is aimed more at gamers who have a 4K TV to truly be able to take advantage of the console and its hardware. “Scorpio is designed as a 4K console, and if you don’t have a 4K TV, the benefit we’ve designed for, you’re not going to see.”
He also adds that gamers are obviously more than welcome to purchase the console, and that when they do decide to upgrade to a 4K TV, that’s when Scorpio will truly shine. In a way it’s like buying a $5,000 gaming rig but using it on a CRT monitor that supports a 800×600 resolution. That being said, 4K is expected to be the standard in the future and there are plenty of affordable 4K TVs around, so if you are eyeing the Scorpio, maybe it’s time to look into investing in one.
