For those who have played The Witcher 3, you have probably come across and played one of the minigames within the game itself called Gwent, which for those unfamiliar is a card game of sorts. Now it looks like the folks at CD Projekt Red could be considering taking that minigame and making it into an actual standalone game.
This is according to a recent trademark filing spotted by the folks at Nerdleaks where the filing was also accompanied by a possible logo design (this is one of the two that were submitted). Given that Gwent is a card game within The Witcher 3, there’s a good chance that this will also be a card game if launched as a standalone.
Given the successful nature of Hearthstone, we guess we can’t say we’re surprised to see other developers launching similar concepts. Speaking to Eurogamer last month, CD Projekt Red co-founder Marcin Iwinski could have hinted at its launch as he stated that at E3, the company would be launching a new video game format that they had previously not explored.
Now given that The Witcher 3 appears to be the last title in the series and that we probably shouldn’t expect a successor anytime soon, if ever, perhaps Gwent could be CD Projekt Red’s way of keeping the franchise alive in some small way. Either way we will find out at E3 2016, so check back with us then for the details.
