According to WABetaInfo, it seems that an upcoming feature of WhatsApp is the ability to mention users in your conversations. This relies on the “@” symbol similar to what Twitter and Instagram use to identify users with. It also works the same way where you could @ someone in the group chat in order to get their attention.
However given that sometimes contact names can be long, we’re sure not sure if this will require users to manually type in the full name or if WhatsApp can autocomplete it for you. Another upcoming feature is the ability to send group chat invites. Prior to this, users had to add other users to the group manually.
This can be troublesome if the admin does not have the contacts of the other people in the group. By creating a group invite, users can share the invite with people, like with a post on Facebook or email and users can join the groups themselves by following the link. These features appear to be in the beta for WhatsApp meaning that they aren’t live for regular users now, but hopefully they will be rolled out soon.
