One of the reasons why Uber caught on so quickly was because just about anyone who has a driver’s license and a car can be an Uber driver. However unlike taxis, this also meant that there is no set standard in terms of what kind of car you might get. You might luck out and get someone with a new car, or you might get someone with a slightly older and smaller car.
Now if you wanted to travel in style, the good news is that Volkswagen might have something for you. The company has recently announced that they are looking into creating an Uber-rival whose key differences would be the fact that they will use more luxury vehicles, such as Audi or Porsche, which will probably be expensive.
For those unfamiliar, Volkswagen has recently expressed their interest in ride sharing services which is why just last week, the company invested as much as $300 million into Gett. According to their press release, they also revealed their plans for their “special chauffeur service” which sounds like it would basically be a high-end Uber rival.
“The Volkswagen Group plans to offer attractive terms on Volkswagen automobiles for Gett drivers. Special package offers will conveniently pool various costs such as purchase or finance as well as the necessary insurance and servicing. Alongside brands such as Volkswagen, ŠKODA and SEAT, a special chauffeur service featuring premium brands, such as Audi and Porsche, is also being considered.” No word on when this special service will be launched, but the next time you want to get around in style, Volkswagen might have the car for you.
