Ubisoft launched Tom Clancy’s The Division earlier this year. The game did quite well, earning over $330 million in the first five days after its launch, breaking many company records in its first week. Ubisoft seems to be looking at other ways to cash in the game’s popularity and it appears that a movie is not off the table. Reports suggest that a The Division movie is in the pipeline over at Ubisoft.
None of this has been officially confirmed yet so take it with a bit of salt for now. Variety quotes sources familiar with the matter that Ubisoft is looking into making a The Division movie.
The story of this game revolves around agents of the Strategic Homeland Division who are sent in to New York City after a man-made virus has brought death and destruction upon the city. The agents are supposed to investigate the outbreak of this virus while maintaining order to the best of their abilities.
It’s claimed that Jake Gyllenhaal is attached to the project. He has played the lead in a video game adaption in the past as well, many of you might remember that he starred in Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time which was released back in 2010. To this day, that movie remains the highest grossing film based on a video game.
No word as yet on what the final cast is going to be, or if Ubisoft is going to go through with it at all.
