Misfit has announced today that it’s improving the capabilities of the Misfit Shine 2 and Ray fitness trackers by offering advanced swim tracking features that were first introduced with the company’s Speedo Shine last year. It has also announced the release of the Speedo Shine 2 which is the successor to last year’s wearable device that’s based on the Shine 2 fitness tracker.
Misfit Shine 2 and Ray are more than capable of providing swim tracking but the feature is locked behind a paywall. If you already own either one of these wearable fitness trackers then you can easily unlock the swim tracking feature by paying $9.99.
Both devices are water resistant up to 50 meters so they’re good for swimming. Once the feature is unlocked the Misfit Shine 2 and Ray will both be able to track lap counts and swim times. Misfit says that the devices use proprietary algorithms for lap counting and that it works with all stroke types.
Misfit Speedo Shine 2 tracker is based on the Misfit Shine 2. It tracks activities like running, walking, cycling, and swimming out of the box. It’s thinner, lighter, power efficient, and features additional tweaks. It’s available starting today for $119.99.
Misfit has said that it’s going to release more features in the future through the in-app model, meaning that if you purchase one of its products you’re likely to find yourself paying for a feature that does what one would expect to do a fitness tracker to do.
