For those unfamiliar, the OnePlus X was a mid-ranged handset launched last year with an affordable price tag and decent specs. It was also aimed at users who valued aesthetics over hardware. According to OnePlus CEO Pete Lau, he stated that the decision to do away with the lineup wasn’t because the phone wasn’t selling well or because it wasn’t popular.
Instead Lau said that the reason was because the company wanted to strengthen its foundation. Given that OnePlus is still relatively new to the smartphone scene and does not have the resources like Apple or Samsung, we suppose it is understandable that they’d rather focus what resources they do have on creating the best phone possible.
So far OnePlus has been making some big changes, like ditching the somewhat controversial invite program where customers had to wait for invites to purchase the phone. Instead the OnePlus 3 will be immediately available for order via more traditional means. Lau also revealed that the company will also be investing in after-sale services and more lifestyle products.
