The Galaxy S7 Active has just been officially announced by AT&T. We all knew that this smartphone was coming so the announcement comes as anything but a surprise. The Galaxy S7 Active is exactly what we expected it to be, a rugged and more durable variant of the amazing Galaxy S7. Much of the specs remains the same, and there’s always the fact that Active handsets are released exclusively on AT&T.
Some might question why the need for an Active variant this year when the Galaxy S7 is waterproof, but the fact remains that the Samsung flagship doesn’t offer protection up to military standards, while the Active variant does.
The Galaxy S7 Active features three physical buttons as well as a fingerprint sensor under the home button. It has the same Quad HD display, Qualcomm Snapdragon 820 processor and 4GB RAM like its sibling, but does feature a massive 4,000mAh battery.
Samsung claims that the Galaxy S7 Active can withstand drops from up to five feet even if it falls screen-first. It’s more than capable of holding its own against water, so it’s a pretty robust handset that’s going to suit an active lifestyle.
AT&T starts selling the Galaxy S7 Active from June 10th. It’s available on the carrier’s Next plans, customers will have to pay $26.50 per month on the 30 month plan and $33.13 per month on the 24 month plan.
