Last month it was reported that Twitter would soon be adding a “Go Live” button in its mobile app which will basically integrate Periscope with the app, sort of. At the time it was spotted, Twitter stated that they were merely testing out the feature and that it hadn’t rolled out to all of its users yet.
That has changed as Twitter has officially announced that the Periscope “Go Live” button is now integrated into its Twitter app on iOS and Android. Now like we said, it “sort of” lets you use Periscope because in reality what it really does is it acts as a shortcut to the Periscope app. This is fine if you already have the app, but if you don’t, you’ll be prompted to download it.
Ideally it would be better if Twitter had integrated some of Periscope’s functionality into the app itself, but we guess that would involve a lot more work, although who’s to say that this isn’t what they will eventually do in the future? That being said once Periscope is launched, users can begin their livestream immediately.
We suppose this will be useful if you are using Twitter on your phone and the urge to do a live broadcast comes up, but other than that this feature will probably end up saving you a few extra steps. The update should be live and available via the iTunes App Store and Google Play.
