If there was one thing you were more or less guaranteed when you bought a Blizzard game is that you will get to play with all your friends who have the game as well. This is thanks to the fact that Blizzard’s games have pretty much been all PC, at least until Diablo when Blizzard officially got into the console scene (the failed StarCraft: Ghost title notwithstanding).
Now it seems like Blizzard’s plans for console gaming is getting serious, thanks to the launch of Overwatch which is not only available on the PC, but on consoles like the Xbox One and PS4 as well. However gamers have not been able to play with each other, but Blizzard isn’t closed to the idea that one day they might.
In response to a question posed on Twitter as to whether or not cross platform gaming is a possibility, Blizzard responded by saying, “There is no cross platform play. We’ll keep an eye on cross-platform possibilities on the consoles.” Blizzard also seemed to suggest that one of the reasons is due to the difference in controllers used.
According to Blizzard, “Mixing mouse/keyboard and controller can have balance and competitive issues.” In any case we suppose we shouldn’t get our hopes up just yet, but if Blizzard manages to figure this out, no doubt the Overwatch scene would get a lot more competitive.
