OnePlus has quickly built a reputation for itself as a company that provides smartphones that tout flagship-level specifications at a lower price. The company also has a reputation for employing aggressive marketing tactics, and some of them have caused it embarrassment as well. One must give credit to the company for its remarkable success over the past couple of years, and appreciate its wisdom from jumping on the bandwagon of a trend which might have ended up in tears for OnePlus.
Many of you might have wondered that why hasn’t OnePlus released a smartwatch yet, surely it must have plans since almost every other consumer tech company is doing it, but as it turns out OnePlus did think about making a smartwatch.
Speaking to the Wall Street Journal, OnePlus CEO Peter Lau revealed that a design of the OnePlus smartwatch had been completed, but “we still decided to scrap it,” adding that the company needs to be focused in order to survive in the market.
Even though quite a lot of companies are making smartwatches, not all of them are performing very well, A large company can withstand a product or two not performing well but for a relatively new company like OnePlus it might have proved to be the difference between success and failure.
Perhaps that’s what Pete Lau and the team came to terms with when they decided that it was best to scrap the smartwatch plans. It surely doesn’t mean that OnePlus won’t release a smartwatch at some stage, but merely proves that it won’t be coming out with one in the near future.
