Nostalrius Claims World Of Warcraft Meeting With Blizzard Went Well

As you might recall, the folks behind the unofficial World of Warcraft private vanilla server Nostalrius was supposed to meet with Blizzard this month, and sure enough they did. According to the team in a quick update, it seems that the meeting with Blizzard went well, echoing former WoW developer Mark Kern’s previous statement.

According to Nostalrius, “If they were to happen, there would be a lot of work involved to launch official legacy servers. We were amazed by the passion of everyone at the meeting for vanilla WoW. There is no official yes or no yet, more details next week. Meeting with Mike Morhaime and the Warcraft devs went well! We all had a great time.”

It sounds like there is still a chance that Blizzard would say no to creating legacy servers, but we guess at least contact and discussions have been established, instead of nasty and messy lawsuits thrown at each other. Now for those unfamiliar with the situation, in April a fan-run vanilla World of Warcraft server was shut down by Blizzard for obvious reasons.

However the community reacted very strongly to this which led to petitions being signed, and it even saw the game’s ex-developer Mark Kern throw his support behind it. Blizzard acknowledged the situation and said that they would be meeting with the owners of the server (which they just did). As to whether or not this works out in everyone’s favor still remains to be seen, but we’ll keep our eyes peeled for more updates on the situation.
