The folks at The Next Web have verified the initial claims by calling around several different Apple stores around the San Diego area. According to their findings, it seems that it is true that Apple store staff have been told to clear non-Retina MacBook Pro models from the sales floor and that this has been happening for the past week.
It is unclear as to why this is the case, but like we said, perhaps Apple is just trying to standardize the experience across the board. After all with the rumors that there could be revamped MacBook Pro coming later this year with an OLED touch panel replacing the function keys, it would be one more variant that customers have to choose from, meaning Apple needs to produce more variants which probably isn’t as cost-efficient.
In any case the good news is that for now, the non-Retina models are still being sold on Apple’s website so if you don’t think you want to spend the money on a Retina model, here’s your chance to buy the non-Retina models before they are removed from Apple’s website as well.
