According to their report, it seems that the Nintendo NX was delayed to 2017 because Nintendo wanted to incorporate virtual reality into the console. Given that Sony has the PlayStation VR and Microsoft’s Xbox One is expected to have VR support as well, we guess Nintendo did not want to be left out, which actually makes sense given that the Wii U wasn’t exactly a resounding success.
Their report reads, “Sources from the related upstream supply chain pointed out that the delay was because Nintendo wished to enhance the game console’s video-game/handheld-game-integrated gaming experience and add virtual reality (VR) function into the system to gain advantages in the upcoming video game and mobile game competitions.”
If this is true, it might also explain why Nintendo has opted to not show off the console at E3. After all if the console isn’t 100% ready yet or if they’re keeping the VR element a surprise, we guess it makes sense to pass on showing it off for now. In any case do take note that DigiTimes doesn’t exactly have the best track record when it comes to rumors, so take it with a grain of salt for now, but this isn’t the first time we’ve heard rumors of the NX sporting some kind of VR technology.
