New Quake Episode Released To Celebrate The Game’s 20th Anniversary

FPS games are a dime a dozen, but there are only some that can truly be called classics, and the Quake franchise is one of them. To celebrate the original Quake turning 20, the developers at MachineGames (who developed Wolfenstein: The New Order) have released a new episode for the original Quake game.

So far it seems that they have done a fantastic job with the level as many players on Twitter and PC Gamer have reported that it has been extremely fun. Obviously it does not have the graphics to match today’s games, but we’re talking about a 20 year old game here, which we guess also goes to show that you don’t necessarily need to have the best graphics to have the most fun.

That being said, the new episode will require users to have a copy of the game which users can source from all over the internet, such as GOG or Steam, depending on your preference. If you have the game or have already installed it, just download the RAR file from Bethesda’s website and extract the files into its own subdirectory within the Quake directory, run the “Dopa” batch file, and you should be good to go.

The new episode is free so don’t worry there aren’t any hidden fees, so check it out if you are so inclined. In the meantime for those looking for a more modern take on the game, during E3 the new Quake Champions title was announced and details of the game will be shared during QuakeCon this coming August.
