The good news is that Nest isn’t going anywhere, at least not anytime soon. In an internal email sent to employees and obtained by The Verge, Fawaz reassured employees that the company was not for sale. “I mentioned on Friday that my skills and passion are around scaling great companies — and products — to reach more customers. It’s what I like to think about and what I like to deliver. My only agenda for Nest is to scale and grow with innovative products. Nest is not for sale, and scaling and innovation aren’t mutually exclusive.”
As if to drive the point home, The Verge also confirmed with a source at Alphabet, Nest’s parent company, that Nest was categorically not for sale, and that they are actually looking to invest further in it. However it should be noted that last year Google did look around for potential buyers, but we guess either they changed their minds or nothing came of it.
In any case it is unclear as to what the future holds for Nest, but only time will be able to tell if Fawaz will be able to return Nest to the glory days when it used to be the darling of connected home appliances.
