It was assumed that this meant that the Moto Z would replace the Moto X, just like the rumors suggested, but as it turns out that isn’t completely true. In a statement released by Motorola to Android Police, the company states that the Moto Z isn’t replacing the Moto X, and that both lineups are meant to offer different experiences.
According to the statement, “Moto X is alive and well. In fact, Moto X Force recently launched in multiple new markets around the world. Moto X and Moto Z do share some great qualities, but they ultimately provide different experiences and make our portfolio more robust for consumers looking for the perfect smartphone to fit their needs.”
It also adds that the Moto Z is meant to target those who are more “tech-hungry”. “Tech-hungry consumers who are looking to get a brand new set of experiences from their smartphone will turn to Moto Z and Moto Mods.” That being said if that is true, it is unclear when we could see refreshed Moto X handsets, but in the meantime if you are after a high-end Motorola handset, the Moto Z handsets are your best bet for now.
