If there was one defining feature about the Moto X phones in the past, it would be the fact that they were customizable in terms of being able to swap around the backplates via the Moto Maker feature. This year we heard that Motorola might be changing the names to the Moto Z, but it looks like the customization options are here to stay.
Thanks to newly leaked photos, it seems that the upcoming Moto Z will come with interchangeable backplates similar to those of the Moto X. While we can’t say for sure what kind of materials to expect, the photo above seems to hint at wood and leather options, although the rumors are also claiming that we can expect “ballistic nylon”, the same material used for the Moto X Force.
Also we can’t be sure if these backplates are the complete lineup of what Motorola has to offer, although given that the previous Moto X handsets had access to way more customization options we’re guessing that these are probably just a sampling. We have heard rumors that the Moto Z would come with snap-on modular accessories, and chances are these are how the backplates are attached to the phone as well.
In any case Lenovo has announced that they will be officially announcing new Moto handsets on the 9th of June which is this coming Thursday, so check back with us then for the updates.
