Last September, the folks at Keurig announced a new pod machine called the Kold. This machine effectively allows to make their own sodas via pods similar to pods used in their coffee machines. However these sodas weren’t regular sodas, instead Keurig had managed to partner up with the likes of Coca-Cola, meaning that you could create a glass of coke from a pod.
It sounded like a good idea albeit an expensive one. The Kold was priced at $370 (let’s not forget the price of the pods) which would admittedly have gotten you crates of soda for that price, which is why it seems that in less than a year, Keurig has decided to pull the plug. The company has officially announced that they will be discontinuing the Kold machine.
In fact customers who have bought the machine are apparently also eligible for a full refund, which makes sense since what’s the point of having a machine if the pods are no longer being produced, right? Alternatively if you think that the machine still has some novelty value and you’d like to keep it, Keurig is selling the Kold pods at a discount, so maybe you’ll want to stock up.
Keurig also announced that layoffs are expected to be part of this move and about 130 employees will be affected by it. Last year the company also announced pods that would make soup, although since this uses the same machine as Keurig’s coffee maker, we guess it isn’t as prohibitive compared to the Kold.
