It is widely believed that Apple could do away with the headphone jack for the upcoming iPhone 7. Given that we’ve seen other Android OEMs beat Apple to the punch, it doesn’t seem like a particularly far-fetched rumor, although it would be rather inconvenient as many audio products still rely on the 3.5mm jack and port.
To that extent, there have been rumors to suggest that we could be getting wireless headphones with the iPhone 7, or maybe EarPods with a Lightning connector, but it looks like the rumors could be wrong because according to a new report, the reality is a rather dull one. Apple is now said to be shipping standard EarPods with the iPhone 7, with the only difference being that it will come with a Lightning adapter.
This adapter will presumably allow the use of regular headphones to plug into the Lightning port on the iPhone 7. While the gesture is appreciated, this will no doubt make it inconvenient for those who are charging their phones and who want to listen to music at the same time. As for the gap left behind by the headphone port, the rumors corroborate an earlier claim that suggests an additional speaker could be used to fill the spot.
In any case take it with a grain of salt for now, but as far as the headphone rumors are concerned, this is the one that probably makes the most sense, at least for the time-being.
