According to a report from Bloomberg, IMAX has launched a new IMAX Private Theatre division with the goal of bringing the IMAX experience to your home. Unfortunately it will cost you at least $400,000 meaning that obviously it won’t be making its way into the homes of your average Joe, and that only the rich will have the means to pay for it.
Like we said, it will cost at least $400,000 which will be the “basic” Palais model that will come with dual 4K 2D/3D projectors, the IMAX sound system, a touchscreen remote, and seating that will accommodate 7-18 people. Unfortunately movies will not be provided, but you can add on $10,000 to get the set-top box that can play the latest IMAX movies, oh but rental isn’t included either, all of which we reckon will add up to a lot of money.
According to Robert Lister, Imax’s chief business, “It is the perfect marriage of a lot of trends we are seeing in entertainment consumption and our technology. People are demanding content, when they want it, where they want it, how they want it.” So, any takers?
