It sports a 50MP medium format CMOS sensor which is essentially the largest sensor that has been made available for mirrorless cameras to date, which in turn will open up the camera to more enthusiastic photographers who might have loved the idea of a medium format mirrorless camera, but were unable to get their hands on one since it never really existed, at least until now.
The design of the X1D looks pretty good and is definitely a departure from the style of cameras we’ve seen the company release so far. It is capable of shooting an ISO range of 100-25,600, and will also be able to capture 1080/25p video. It will also use a new lens mount that will support XCD lenses, two of which were announced at launch which includes a 45mm f/3.5 and a 90mm f/3.2.
The camera will also come with a 3-inch touchscreen display, a 2.36M-dot EVF, WiFi, GPS, and with its battery, will only weigh 725g which is admittedly not too heavy. Unfortunately the X1D is not catered to the casual photographer as it is priced at a whopping $9,000 for the body only. The company will be offering demos to potential customers next month and is expected to begin shipping it out in August.
