The other day Hasselblad announced the X1D, the world’s first medium format camera, although given its $9,000 price tag for the body-only, it is obvious that Hasselblad is targeting professionals who might have a need for the medium format. However it seems that Hasselblad won’t be alone in their endeavors.
According to Fuji Rumors, they have heard from their sources that Fujifilm is also preparing a mirrorless medium format camera that will be more affordable than Hasselblad’s offerings. However exactly how “affordable” this camera is remains to be seen. Even if it was half the price of Hasselblad it would still be considerably more expensive than regular mirrorless cameras.
As far as the specs are concerned, so much is known about the device save for the tip that it could sport a 50MP sensor. It is also said to be launched with 3 different lenses to choose from, and they are expected to be announced at Photokina. However in terms of availability, word has it that it will only be arriving in 2017.
Take it with a grain of salt for now, but if medium format cameras aren’t your thing, don’t worry as Fujifilm is expected to announce the X-T2 mirrorless camera as soon as next month.
