Fitbit today announced the launch of a new Sleep Schedule feature to provide millions of its users with what it claims to be the “most advanced sleep coaching on the market.” It’s working with a panel of sleep experts for this purpose. Proper sleep is absolutely necessary for your health and wellness, it’s something that shouldn’t be ignored but often takes a back seat in today’s fast-paced life.
The Sleep Schedule feature analyzes data from your Fitbit device for patterns and then comes up with a personalized sleep schedule tailored just for you. The idea being to help you set your internal clock (circadian rhythm) and benefit from higher quality sleep.
Fitbit points out that currently there are no other products on the market that provide personalized recommendations to users by analyzing their data and guiding them towards a consistent sleep routine.
The company has also released sleep data from over ten million users which supports correlations between sleep and activity. Data shows that users with an overweight BMI get on average 70 minutes less sleep per week that those with normal BMIs and users that log more active minutes tend to go to sleep early and more consistently.
Sleep Schedule is included in the updated Fitbit app. It provides personalized recommendations, lets you set bedtime and wake up targets, reminders, as well as creates a history chart of your Sleep Schedule. The feature works with all Fitbit devices that automatically track sleep.
