You can see what you’ve posted and shared by going to your own profile, which is basically your Timeline that shows what you’ve been up to on Facebook. Exactly what your Timeline shows is really up to you and your privacy settings, but now it looks like Facebook has introduced a new way to post items without it showing up on your Timeline.

According to a report from CNET, it seems that this feature will let users post things like a status update that will show up on your friends’ News Feed, but if they were to check your profile it would not show up there. This feature has been available for a while now although it had to be enabled manually by checking the “Hide From Your Timeline” box, but with this feature, there is no need for any action on the user’s end.

So why would anyone need this feature? Perhaps you’re looking to vent your frustrations on a topic that you don’t want to appear on your Timeline (although it should be noted that it can still be searched for, it just won’t show up on your Timeline). In a statement given to Engadget, Facebook explains why they have implemented this feature.

“We’ve heard feedback that sometimes, you may want to share a post with friends and family via News Feed and not have that post be displayed on your Timeline. The ability to hide a post from your Timeline already exists, and today we’re testing a feature that would make it even easier to control where your posts live by giving you the option to publish a post only to News Feed and not to your Timeline.”

Note that this is currently being tested out and there’s no guarantee that it will make the final cut, but what do you guys think of the feature?
